General Motors Launches New Workforce Initiative Supporting Veterans and Military Families

We love spotlighting programs that open doors, strengthen communities, and create real pathways to stability. Recently, General Motors announced a powerful new initiative designed to do exactly that for the veterans and military families who call North Texas home.

GM’s new Stars, Stripes, and Skilled Trades program is a nationwide workforce initiative supporting transitioning service members, veterans, and military spouses as they pursue careers in automotive manufacturing and the skilled trades. The company is partnering with mission‑driven nonprofits across the country, offering grants ranging from $100,000 to $500,000 to expand training, job placement, and credential‑building opportunities.

It’s a meaningful investment in people who have already given so much. GM employs more than 5,000 veterans and has long supported military families through programs like Shifting Gears, which has helped over 1,000 service members transition into automotive technician careers. This new initiative builds on that legacy with even more resources, more access, and more pathways to good, high‑demand jobs.

For families in the Dallas Fort Worth area, especially single‑parent households navigating career transitions, deployments, or new beginnings, programs like this create new chapters and new beginnings. They also create stability and new options. And they create opportunities to build a future rooted in confidence and community.

We are looking forward to learning more about the selected partners announced later this fall.

It’s always inspiring to see companies invest in the people who keep our communities strong and viable. For more information on the upcoming intiative, visit here.
