5 Family-Friendly Features to Love in the 2026 Kia Sorento X-Line

Finding a family SUV often means balancing space, comfort and safety with something you’ll actually enjoy driving. The 2026 Kia Sorento X-Line makes that equation a little easier, combining three-row versatility with useful technology and the X-Line’s more adventurous personality.

Kia positions the Sorento as a mid-size three-row SUV, just smaller than the Telluride, with the X-Line adding more rugged styling and capability-oriented touches. With a lineup that offers four powertrain choices, including naturally aspirated and turbocharged gasoline engines, a hybrid and a plug-in hybrid, while the X-Line (the one tested for this article) pairs its distinctive styling with the more powerful 2.5-liter turbocharged engine.

Here are five features that make it particularly compelling for families.

1. Three Rows Give Families More Flexibility

The big advantage of the Sorento is simple: three-row seating in a package that doesn’t feel like an oversized SUV. That extra row gives families options. It is still easy to park and can accommodate additional passengers when needed, while folding seats allow the space to be adapted when cargo becomes the priority. For everything from school-day carpools to weekend activities, flexibility is one of the Sorento’s strongest selling points.

2. Second-Row Captain’s Chairs Make a Difference

Available second-row captain’s chairs make moving people through the cabin easier while giving second-row passengers their own space. For families, that configuration can be especially appealing when you frequently use the third row. There’s also something to be said for giving siblings their own designated territory on a long road trip.

3. The Technology Fits Family Life

A large touchscreen serves as the hub of the Sorento’s infotainment experience. The lineup also offers smartphone connectivity with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility and other available conveniences designed to keep everyone connected on the road. One particularly useful feature is Kia Digital Key 2, which is available on select Sorento trims and allows a compatible smartphone to function as a key. Digital keys can also be shared remotely with family or friends with specific access levels. I also loved the in-seat charging ports for the second row.

4. Driver-Assistance Technology Adds Another Layer of Confidence

Family-friendly design isn’t only about cupholders and seating. Driver-assistance technology matters, too. The Sorento offers a broad collection of available collision-avoidance and driver-assistance features, although equipment varies by trim and package. An abundance of standard safety technology is another family-friendly strength. The 2026 Kia Sorento X-Line offers a broad collection of driver-assistance features, including forward collision-avoidance technology, blind-spot assistance, lane-keeping technology and rear cross-traffic assistance. When you’re navigating everything from crowded school pickup lines to Dallas highway traffic, that extra layer of driver support is one of the Sorento’s most practical advantages. That being said, technology doesn’t replace an attentive driver, but having additional assistance around the vehicle can be valuable on the crowded highways like 635, narrow parking lots and school zones that tend to try your patience.

5. X-Line Adds a Little Adventure to the Family-SUV Formula

Practical doesn’t have to mean boring. The X-Line treatment gives the Sorento a bit more glam, but still rugged, with features such as increased ground clearance, blackout exterior trim and high-utility roof rails associated with X-Line models. It also comes packed with a 281-horsepower turbocharged engine gives it plenty of pep for everyday driving, whether you’re merging onto the highway or loading up for a weekend road trip. Ideal for families whose weekends involve bikes, sports equipment, road trips or simply getting out of Dallas for a couple of days, that peppy, capability-inspired approach fits nicely.

Teia’s Take:

The 2026 Kia Sorento X-Line makes a compelling case for families who need more space, flexibility than a traditional two-row crossover provides but don’t necessarily want to move into a much larger SUV. There are a plethora of trims: X-Line EX, X-Line SX and the X-Line SX Prestige, each with a different personality and spirit It brings together three flexible rows, smart technology, family-friendly seating and the added personality of the X-Line to create a vehicle that can handle the everyday routine while still feeling ready for wherever the weekend leads.
