Early voting is officially underway across Texas, giving voters a chance to cast their ballots before Election Day without waiting until the last minute. For the 2026 General Election, early voting runs from Monday, October 19 through Friday, October 30. Election Day is Tuesday, November 3, 2026.
If voting is still sitting on your to-do list, here are a few things to know before heading out.
You Don’t Have to Wait Until Election Day
One of the biggest advantages of early voting is flexibility. During the early-voting period, Texans can generally vote at an early-voting location within their county of residence rather than waiting for November 3. Your county elections office provides its specific polling locations and schedules.
For busy parents juggling work, school schedules, appointments and everything else life brings, having multiple days to choose from can make fitting voting into the calendar much easier.
Check Your Registration Before You Go
Even if you’ve voted before, it’s worth verifying your voter information before heading to the polls. The Texas Secretary of State provides voter information through VoteTexas.gov, where Texans can check their registration status and find election information.
Don’t Forget Your ID
Texas voters are asked to present one of seven acceptable forms of photo identification when voting in person. The state also provides alternative procedures for registered voters who do not possess an acceptable photo ID and cannot reasonably obtain one. Checking the requirements before leaving home can save an unnecessary trip.
Make Your Voting Plan
Between work, kids, traffic and everyday responsibilities, Election Day can arrive quickly. Early voting offers another opportunity to choose the day that works best for your schedule.
Key dates to remember:
