What I’m Reading Now: Remain by Nicholas Sparks and M. Night Shyamalan

Every season, I love settling into a story that feels like an escape — something I can tuck into my bag between school drop‑off, work deadlines, and the never‑ending “What’s for dinner?” chorus. This month, that book is Remain, the new supernatural love story from Nicholas Sparks and M. Night Shyamalan — that will be an upcoming movie with Jake Gyllendal.

Yes, that Nicholas Sparks. And yes, that M. Night Shyamalan. And somehow… it works.

A Love Story With a Twist

If you’re a longtime Sparks fan, you already know he can craft a romance that tugs at your heartstrings. But Remain adds something different — a quiet, eerie, almost cinematic tension that feels unmistakably Shyamalan. It’s tender, still emotional, deeply rooted in human connection… but with a supernatural thread that has kept me turning pages long after I meant to go to sleep.

Why It’s Perfect for Single Moms

Life as a single mom is a blend of grit, grace, and intentionally choosing joy even when the day feels heavy. Remain taps into that emotional landscape — the longing, the resilience, the hope, the belief that love (in all its forms) can still surprise and delight you.

So far, it’s been a reminder that:

  • You can escape into a story
  • You get to feel deeply
  • You’re allowed to choose softness, even in a hard season

And for me, it’s just fun to read something that feels a little magical and to tap into a good story.

My Takeaway So Far

I’m only partway through, but here’s what I can say: It’s atmospheric and absorbing. It’s romantic. It’s a little spooky. And it’s giving “snuggle up with a blanket and a cup of tea while the kids watch a movie” or “read by the firepit” energy.

If you love:

  • The Notebook
  • The Sixth Sense
  • Or anything that blends a good love story with heavy dose of mystery

…this one deserves a spot on your nightstand.
