A Sweet Passover Upgrade: Pistachio Chocolate Matzah Crack You’ll Want to Make Again (and Again)

If you’re anything like me, the holidays are about celebrating traditions—but also about finding little ways to make those traditions feel fresh, beautiful, and honestly… a little indulgent.

This year, Manischewitz is giving us a reason to fall in love with a classic all over again. Enter: Pistachio Chocolate Matzah Crack—a simple, elevated dessert that feels just as at home on your seder table as it does tucked away for those late-night “just one more bite” moments.

Why This Recipe Works

Let’s be real—Passover can be beautiful, but it can also be a lot. This recipe hits that sweet spot:

  • Simple pantry ingredients
  • Minimal prep, maximum payoff
  • Kid-friendly, but still feels elevated
  • Perfect for sharing (or not)

It takes a traditional staple—matzah—and transforms it into something layered, rich, and completely crave-worthy.

What Makes It Special

Think of this as your upgraded matzah toffee moment:

  • Crisp matzah layered with buttery caramel
  • A creamy pistachio spread that adds depth and a little unexpected luxury
  • Smooth melted chocolate that ties it all together
  • Finished with crunchy pistachios + flaky salt for that perfect sweet-salty balance

It’s perfect for a sweet addition to the effortless hosting routine… that is bound to be asked for again and again.

Pistachio Chocolate Matzah Crack Recipe

Ingredients

  • 1 box Manischewitz matzahs
  • 2 sticks of margarine
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 2 cups shelled pistachios
  • 1/3 cup powdered sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup melted Heaven & Earth coconut oil (+ 2 tablespoons more as needed)
  • 1 ½ bars Geneve baking chocolate, melted
  • Chopped pistachios (for garnish)
  • Flaky salt (for garnish)

How to Make It

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Arrange matzah in a single layer on the baking sheet.
  3. In a saucepan, melt margarine and brown sugar together, stirring until it becomes a smooth caramel.
  4. Pour the caramel evenly over the matzah and bake for about 10–12 minutes, until bubbly.
  5. While that’s baking, blend pistachios, powdered sugar, salt, and coconut oil until smooth and spreadable (add more oil if needed).
  6. Remove matzah from the oven and let it cool slightly. Then spread the pistachio mixture over the caramel layer.
  7. Drizzle or spread melted chocolate on top.
  8. Finish with chopped pistachios and a sprinkle of flaky salt.
  9. Let it cool completely (or pop it in the fridge to set faster), then break into pieces.

How to Serve It

This is one of those recipes that works in every moment:

  • After seder, with tea or coffee
  • As a midday snack while the kids are playing
  • Wrapped up and shared with friends or neighbors
  • Or tucked away for yourself (because you deserve that too)

Why we love it?

I love recipes like this because they honor tradition while making space for creativity—and that’s really what modern motherhood (and hosting) looks like.

This Pistachio Chocolate Matzah Crack is easy, beautiful, and just indulgent enough to feel special without adding stress.
